Recent holidays have been arranged in Cornwall (Newquay),Suffolk, Hampshire, West Wales and Derbyshire (2016). Visits are made on both legs of the journey with a daily excursion on the other days. As a guide, the cost is usually around £450.
Booking for the holiday usually starts in October of the preceding year. Details of the next holiday will feature on this site.
This is a great chance to see the largest collection of Tutankhmun's treasures ever to travel out of Egypt. The Saatchi Gallery will only hold tickets until October so we require deposits by then.
Sunday 5th April
After an early start, on a Barnes coach, we meet our Blue Badge guide on the Embankment who will tell us about the 'Great Stink'. We will follow the Victorian sewers, by boat and coach, to Sir Joseph Bazalgette's Cathedral of Sewage, with its spectacular ornamental cast ironwork at Crossness.
There is a buffet lunch, prior to our guided tour to see the massive engines under steam. It is a short ride to the 3* Clarendon Hotel with time to relax before our 3 course dinner and coffee.
Monday 6th April
Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered at the start of the Roaring Twenties. The designs of ancient Egypt influenced the Art Deco style and Tut mania quickly found its way into everything. Our guide will take us on an entertaining tour in Kensington and Chelsea, seeing where Howard Carter was born. After free time for lunch, we have timed tickets to the Exhibition at 2.00pm which means no queuing. We hope to leave by 4.30pm.
The pickups will be at Westbury, Bradford, Trowbridge, Milk Churn and Chippenham. Times of pickup will be advised later.
Please send a deposit of £50.00 and the booking form to Bernard Groves by 10th October.
Members joining at Milk Churn or Chippenham should are asked to put their car registration on the booking form.
